Restaurant Roundup!
Hosting dinner parties is something that has become a regular occurrence at my home, however there are some restaurants that offer excellent experiences. On the top of my list is Osman's in Mobile. It is owned by culinary chefs, Osman and Mirjana Ademovic. They fled Bosnia in 1992 with two small children and ended up in Mobile in 1997. Three years after arriving they opened their first restaurant and have been delighting the most discerning palates for decades.
Osman is famous for his Schnitzel and Micky makes unbelievable desserts. I suggest you start with Shrimp Gorgonzola as an appetizer. That will be followed by a house salad drizzled with homemade dressing. Every entree on the menu is worthy of trying. I truly have NEVER had a bad meal at this restaurant. Many times I order the catch of the day Meuniere or a Filet Mignon. Hubby opts for the Schnitzel more times than not! Be sure to check out the wine list and there is a full service bar with all of your favorites. Top off your evening with a delightful dessert and coffee. Reservations are required and book up fast. Fine dining, so wear that new dress, ladies!
Recently I blogged about the Lighthouse Restaurant and how my Aunt Evelyn introduced me to fried crab claws at this local favorite. Friends and "boss partners', Jim and Monica Wesson (The Joint Chiropractic) ventured down to this Irvington establishment several weeks ago. Monica was amazed at how big the crab claws were and can't wait to go back.
I am grateful that my childhood memory of delicious seafood was not a figment of my imagination. The offerings at this eatery are some of the best around. There are daily lunch specials and a very friendly staff. Here's the address: 12495 Padgett Switch Rd, Irvington, AL 36544. No reservations are needed and dress is casual. They don't have a website, so viewing the menu beforehand is not an option. Just trust me, this place serves incredible seafood!
Did you know that you don't have to be a member of Heron Lakes Country Club to dine there? Chef Chris Metzger wows his patrons with delicious gumbo, shrimp wraps, burgers, this club sandwich and other options for lunchtime. Dinner delivers a fine dining menu without the high prices. There is a full bar and well trained wait staff ready to serve you.
I have found this space to be the perfect place to meet clients for lunch. The menu is wonderful and will satisfy the pickiest eaters. There is a level of privacy offered for business meetings that you don't find in the average restaurant.
Heron Lakes is located at 3851 Government Blvd, Mobile, AL 36693. It is open for lunch Tuesday thru Saturday. There are Sunday brunches on special days! For more information visit their website.
Tamara's Downtown in Fairhope, Alabama is the place I head to for happy hour! ( Yes, that is art hanging from the ceiling)! Everyday from 3-6pm this wonderful restaurant offers incredible appetizers, drink specials and atmosphere. The smoked tuna dip, coconut shrimp and honey pecan baked brie are some of my favorites. Click here to view the entire menu along with drink specials.
I've grabbed an early dinner in the bar more than once and at times, have moved over to the restaurant side for a wonderful meal. This establishment serves locals, tourists and couples out for a romantic evening. It is the quintessential dining place to wrap up a day of exploring the quaint shops of Fairhope. Reservations for happy hour are not necessary, however there may be a short wait. I suggest you make reservations for dinner by calling 251-929-2219. Enjoy!
There are other favorites that I will share with you in upcoming blogs. I have a list of places to try and will share the ones that I think you will like in my next "restaurant roundup". Let me know if there is a place that you love that you want me to try!
Bosses are Burgeoning!
In this post pandemic, inflation challenged time, it is great to see a business surviving and flourishing! I got together with Houston Horne recently and he shared how his company, Handy Guys Moving is growing. He started the company to meet a need at his dad's business, Handy Lock Storage. So many people desired help moving into and out of storage units. Fast forward, years later; Houston is capable of moving both residential and commercial clients all over the state and the country.
This entrepreneur is serious about becoming one of the best locally owned companies in the south. He is headed to Miami this year for an extensive training for business owners. He is also educating his moving staff and requiring them to become certified movers. This training involves over 120 hours of instruction followed by testing. He believes in investing in his team, his business and in education.
I cannot begin to express how impressed I am with everything this young man is doing for his company and himself!
Rebecca Bunkley opened Apollo's Paws to provide pet grooming to canine, feline, aviary and reptile owners. It is not uncommon to see a beautiful parrot or a ferret at her spa enjoying salon time. She enjoys grooming cats and dogs for her customers too.
In the time that I have been working with her, I have seen her hire additional staff, invest in new state-of-the-art equipment, and launch a beautiful website. Personally, I schedule out a year's worth of appointments for the "boss dogs" because she books up so quickly.
This year she has been nominated by The Lagniappe for their annual best of award called The Nappie. Click on this link to cast your vote for this thriving female entrepreneur.
You'll need to register your email, then you can vote for your favorites on a daily basis! It is such an honor for her to be nominated!
Visionary and entrepreneur, Chad Turner, has his hands in all sorts of enterprises! Several years ago he began the transformation of his family's Fruitdale, Alabama farm into one of the most sought after wedding venues in the South. Triple T Farm has hosted hundreds of couples from all over the region.
The thing that differentiates his wedding venue from others is the number of amenities it offers. Triple T has a bridal house, groom's cabin, fully stocked fishing pond, multiple outdoor ceremony locations, a climate controlled barn that will hold up to 300 people, a silo lined courtyard, overnight accommodations for the bridal party, skeet shooting and so much more. Visit his website by clicking here.
Also cast your vote for a Nappie by clicking here! Congratulations Chad for your nomination. I know the hundreds of couples that have used your farm for their special day agree that you are the best in the biz! Thank you for all that you do for the people in this community!
